Rust en Vrede, Estate Blend

The rich aromas of cassis, mulberry, cedar, and tobacco indicate a Cabernet-dominated blend. The Syrah's fresh cherry and black pepper spice notes, along with hints of mocha, Christmas cake, sandalwood, and leather, add a layered complexity to the wine. The firm tannins and moderate acidity are well-balanced. The wine has a long, satisfying finish and promises to age well.

Winemaking method: Grapes are hand-picked from selected plots. Vinification is done separately for each variety, plot, and clone. The average yield is 6 tons per hectare, and the grapes are destemmed and crushed before fermentation in tank. Maceration lasts for 21 days, including 7 days of remontage and 2-4 punchings per day. All aging takes place in French oak barrels (40% new, 40% second-year, 20% third-year). 30% is aged in 500-liter barrels, and 70% in 300-liter barrels, for 22 months. Ageing: 10-15 years possible
